Diagnostic Tests For Prostate Cancer
February 11th, 2010 by admin
Tests that examine the prostate and blood are used to detect and diagnose prostate cancer include digital rectal examination, prostate-specific antigen or PSA test as well as transrectal unltrasound scan. Transrectal ultrasound is a simple procedure in which a probe that is about the size of a finger is inserted into the rectum to check the prostate. The probe is used to bounce high-energy sound waves or ultrasound off the internal tissues or organs and make echoes. The echoes will form a picture of internal body tissues called a sonogram. Transrectal ultrasound may also be used during a biopsy procedure.
