Both cheap and costly bags are available in the market and it does not necessarily mean that costlier means better. Many cheap bags are of the same quality as that of the costly ones. In terms of durability also, both variety are comparable. Hence while buying a sleeping bag the price should be never the criteria and most of the time the cheaper varieties are preferred over the costly ones. You should check the loft and the insulating power of the bag. It should easily adapt to the change in temperature. Check the fabric of the bag – it should not cause skin irritation. Check the Zipper of the bag. Generally majority of the cheap sleeping bags have both way full length zippers. It should open smoothly and not trouble you when you want to open it. Another very important thing to check while buying a sleeping bag is the stiffeners that reduce the problem in the zippers.
