Family Stories Are Preserved

I had never given much thought to all the records kept by the counties and states until I recently read a book that was compiled on my family’s history, thanks to a coordinated effort by many family members. They used the records of marriage extensively in both finding and verifying information that has been supplied down the family’s verbal pipeline for generations. In some cases, it cleared up confusion, and in some cases, opened new mysteries that needed to be investigated and then solved. It is really a most fascinating study, and I’m glad that some of my older relatives had the foresight to write these things down before they are forgotten by a generation that is too busy to care.
