Pathology of Achilles tendonitis
February 24th, 2010 by admin
Among runners and athletes, Achilles tendonitis is a common problem. The Achilles tendon attaches the very powerful calf muscles to the heel bone, so the tendon does take a heavy load. If that load exceeds what the tendon can take, a tendonitis can occur. That excessive load can come from worn out running shoes; from excessive running mileage; from being overweight; from running up hills too much. It usually just starts as an ache, but if not treated it can progress until it interferes with running. It is usually treated with cutting back running, physical therapy and some specific medications that might helped you.
